#VyralMarketingShow – Episode 14
What you’ll learn in this week’s show:
(1:36min) - We just got back from visiting friends and clients at Keller Williams Family Reunion in Las Vegas. We brought about six employees down to the event and took many of our clients out to dinner and for a fun time at the nightclub. Scott and I talk about how we feel about spending money on sponsor booths, which get very expensive, and do not add value to your clients.
We ask ourselves with every marketing investment, “Would our clients approve the marketing spend?” and “Is this marketing so good that people would pay money to receive it?" These are two questions Scott and I wanted to share which have guided our marketing decisions over the course of growing our firm. We think these principles can help you, too.
Also, when you stand at a booth, the conversations are very product-related regarding price, what you do, and results. Outside of the booth, the conversations are more about the relationship and trust, which is key. Anyway, I think you’ll find value in hearing Scott and I talk about working sponsor booths at large events, so if you find yourself in the position of buying one, we may be able to guide you.
(7:08min) - I also had a great conversation at the event with a mortgage professional who wanted to grow their business. “It would change my life if I had five real estate professionals who consistently used me to write three loans a month,” he said. The man earned $200,000 last year and had “gotten burned” too many times on marketing to invest what was necessary to build those five agent relationships.
So, I share the story of how we worked through the money math and mindset necessary to establish a marketing budget to almost guarantee he reaches his goal with minimal risk. The bottom line is relationships are assets, too, that need to be invested in to go on your balance sheet - not just retirement accounts or savings accounts. I think you’ll enjoy the story and it’s a must watch if you’re locked up with uncertainty or fear when you're faced with a marketing decision.
(15:23min) - We have a fantastic six-month paid marketing internship in San Diego where, if you’re successful, you’ll earn a $50,000 a year salary upon completion. You’ll see how we market the internship with Facebook, YouTube, and banner ads to students one mile around our local universities along with a quarterly print newsletter to all the marketing and business professors at the local colleges.
If you’re looking to recruit talent, ask your people to write a weekly blog post about their experience and what they learned working with you the past week. Use this content for your recruiting marketing. You’ll see examples of our internship marketing you can model, too, if you need to attract talent to you. The quarterly print newsletter to local professors is a powerful strategy!
Our show mission is to help our clients - business owners, professionals, and entrepreneurs - reduce the pain of growing their business by attracting new clients and customers with personal, authentic content (videos, blog posts, podcasts, and more) that helps people. We talk execution and implementation.
