How to mail a letter

By Frank Klesitz in Marketing Training on Apr 13, 2023

Direct mail is the most effective way to get your message out. You’re lucky if 30% of your database opens your email (and that's high). You have no idea if your target market sees you on social media. Personal direct mail letters enjoy a nearly 100% open rate if sent to a confirmed list. We recommend you mail your best contacts in your database once a month. It costs about $1 a letter. Add a 3rd page and ask a sponsor to pay for it. Here’s the 2-page letter system we recommend. We will create a letter like this and mail it upon request.

Page One

  1. Logo in header top left – 300dpi CMYK in color
  2. No mail merge salutation – too much risk it’s not formatted right
  3. Reason for writing them – join the story in their head
  4. Update on what’s going on – talk about what’s relevant now
  5. Reason to call you now – give them your call to actions
  6. Creditability reminder – remind them you’re legit
  7. Invite them to watch your video
  8. 12+ font – the larger the better, I love 14+ font
  9. Paragraph Breaks – the fewer sentences per line the better
  10. Photo Lower Right – a personal, smiling photo of you
  11. Area for signature – the mail house will sign it for you in their handwriting font
  12. Disclosures in the footer – anything you need for compliance

Page Two

  1. Headline – the title of your video
  2. Thumbnail – YouTube Thumbnail, ideally 300DPI and CMYK
  3. Description – YouTube description
  4. Video Blog Link – link to your video blog, not the full blog URL
  5. QRCode – we use https://www.qrcode-monkey.com/ and link to the full blog post

Mailing List (Google Sheet exported as a CSV)

  1. First Name – proper case - “Frank” not “FRANK”
  2. Last Name – proper case
  3. Mailing Address – proper case “123 Elm St” not “123 ELM ST”
  4. Mailing City – proper case “Omaha” not “OMAHA”
  5. Mailing State – “NE” not “Ne”
  6. Mailing Zip – make sure there’s a 0 in front of it if on the east coast
